Meet Bill Miller, M.Ed.
A Buckeye by birth, Bill holds a B.S. in Psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University and a Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Theology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He also holds a Certificate in Pastoral Communications from the University of Dayton and a Certificate in Youth Ministry from the Center for Ministry Development.
Bill has spent his entire career of forty years working for “the church” in some form or fashion. He has ministered here in Northeast Ohio for over 17 years. In 2007, he was appointed Secretary for Catechesis for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. In that capacity, Bill supervised a staff of 15 people who were responsible for such things as training parish catechists and Directors of Religious Education, and for overseeing faith formation for Catholics on seven college/university campuses in Northeast Ohio.
In 2012, Bill retired from his full-time position with the Catholic Diocese in order to answer a call to spend more time and energy giving presentations and retreats; and to pursue a certificate in spiritual direction. He is now the graduate of a 2 year course in Spiritual Direction and certified by the Haden Institute and the Mt. Carmel Spiritual Center.
In the spring of 2012, Bill was elected President of the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership (NCCL), an organization that promotes and enhances Religious Education and Faith Formation for Catholics of all ages throughout the United States. In addition, he serves on the board of The Coalition with Young Adults (C-YA), a Northeast Ohio outreach ministry with and to young adults who are engaged in spiritual development and faith formation.
Bill has extensive experience in ecumenical and interfaith ministry as well. He spent more than a decade of his career working with and giving presentations for numerous Protestant denominations and has collaborated on many occasions with people from both Jewish and Muslim faith traditions in order to promote interfaith understanding and respect.
He has presented regionally for the Ohio Catholic Education Association and nationally for the National Catholic Education Association, the Catholic Campus Ministry Association and the National Conference of Directors of Vocations. Bill is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu (the international Jesuit Honor Society) and has written for several professional journals, including “Horizons” and “Catechetical Leader” magazine.
Bill and his wife of 34 years, Marilyn, reside in Akron. Marilyn is a semi-retired elementary school librarian. Their daughter, Laura Welsh Berg, is a professional actress living in Chicago with her husband, Lynn, a professional actor.
Bill passionately believes that life is about relationships; and that the most important relationship of all is the loving relationship that God is constantly inviting each of us to enter into…a relationship in which God promises to love us unconditionally and to help us become the wonderful people we are called to be. Bill’s presentations are dynamic, alive with the energy that comes from exploring the grand concept of “falling in love with the God who has always been in love with us”.
