This short (2-3 hour) retreat experience, designed for both parish and school catechists, focuses on the call that they have received…a call to be God’s messengers and mentors of the faith. In the process, participants are invited to share their stories of being “called” to the ministry of catechist; and the effect that this call has had on their personal lives as well.
In addition to this storytelling and listening, attendees will have the opportunity to name specific gifts they bring to their role as catechists, as well as any talents they would like to spend time and energy developing. They will also be given an opportunity to name both the joys and challenges of catechetical ministry…savoring the joys and working together to address the challenges. To provide additional inspiration and energy, contemporary Christian music that addresses the themes of joy and discipleship will also be presented and discussed.
The retreat will provide quiet time for participants to reflect upon and pray about various aspects of their ministry, or anything else they choose to address in prayer.
In addition to the wisdom of master catechists such as Joe Paprocki and Gloria Durka, participants will be introduced/re-introduced to wonderful educational methodology from the mind of Parker Palmer, an expert on the subject of faith formation. Palmer is the author of such inspiring works as: “The Courage to Teach” and “Let Your Life Speak”.
One of Bill’s most popular offerings, this “mini-retreat” experience is designed to awaken the passion and joy that is the hallmark of every catechist who aspires to become the best “bearer of the Good News” they can be.
